Gingerbread and Frosting

On the first 2 burns, although the soft gingerbread accord was good, very intense anise dominated the sweetness and spices along with an unappealing lactonic finish whose sour quality was like warm buttermilk. Thankfully, on burns 3 and 4 both the anise and the sourness diminished, allowing stronger spices of cinnamon, sweet clove, and faint ginger to fully emerge. A soft, pastry-like bread (not a cookie) dipped in vanilla cream followed, while a sweet glaze (not as dense as frosting) hovered above, but wasn’t cloying due to the warmer intensity of the spiced base and subtle but tart cranberry. Molasses wasn’t included surprisingly. Overall, this went from meh to marvelous during burns 3 and 4, and both the spices and throw strengthened with each burn (7.5 on 4th burn).
